About the Role

  • The Patient at Risk (PAR) Service is a nurse-led team covering all wards seven days a week between 1445 and 2315hrs.
  • Into the future there will be a night shift included as part of the roster, this will require all successful candidates to participate in this night shift roster.
  • Works with clinical wards/unit staff to identify patients at risk of deteriorating or developing critical illness.
  • Emphasis is on supporting and educating ward staff to help them recognise clinical deterioration and rapidly initiate an appropriate escalation of care.
  • PAR nurses attend all 777 clinical emergencies, follow up patients discharged from HDU, and recent admissions from ED.
  • The Patient at Risk (PAR) Service uses a multi-disciplinary approach to identify patients at risk of or developing critical illness in the general ward environment. The emphasis is one of support and education to ward staff to help them recognise clinical deterioration and rapidly initiate an appropriate

About you

You must be an experienced registered nurse with experience in an Acute care setting CEP, HDU, ICU who holds concurrent FTE in Acutes (Wairarapa) or ICU at Hutt Valley/Capital Coast Hospitals to be eligible for a PAR role. You will also hold an Expert or Proficient portfolio, or working towards the Expert Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as an RN.
