About the Role
If you are a FACEM or an International ED Physician looking to balance a new opportunity in a small and dynamic ED with our wonderful Wairarapa lifestyle, then this may well be the place for you! We will also consider applications from Rural Hospital Specialists.
Wairarapa ED is a busy teaching emergency department seeing approximately 17,000 patients per year (20% paediatric), with an admission rate of about 30%. We work closely with primary care to develop care pathways and better manager acute demand. The next few years will bring exciting developments as we continue to work together to meet the needs of our population.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Wairarapa Hospital is committed to clinical excellence in all disciplines. You will be encouraged to take part in clinical audits and peer reviews to ensure quality clinical care is provided. Clinical co-operation with neighbouring hospitals is a feature of our work, with an established regional Critical Care Network in the region, and a telemedicine trial in development.
You will join our Emergency Medicine team of Emergency Physicians, Medical Officers, Nurses and Administration staff, supported by tertiary, primary care, paramedic and LifeFlight colleagues.
Wairarapa Hospital is a secondary hospital with capacity of up to 90 beds, which services an urban and rural population of 50,000. There is a Level 4 Emergency Department with associated High Dependency Unit, 24/7 access to CT, providing 24-hour acute and elective care in general and orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, anaesthetics and paediatrics.
About you

- Specialist qualification in emergency medicine
- Vocational registration or eligibility for vocational registration in the specialty with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Evidence of contribution and participation in the development to emergency medicine, through membership or participation in professional groups or working parties
- Relevant experience and qualification in paediatric emergency medicine
