Te Whatu Ora Wairararapa provides comprehensive health services throughout the Wairarapa District, and its base is the Wairarapa Hospital in Masterton. The current hospital is 10 years old and supplies a range of core services to this community including general and orthopaedic surgery, general medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and mental health services. Other services are currently supplied by visiting specialists, including ophthalmology. The hospital provides student teaching facilities for the University of Otago.

Wairarapa Hospital is based in Masterton, and is within two hours from both Hutt Hospital and Wellington Hospital. Daily rail services link Wairarapa with the Wellington region, including the International Airport and Inter-Island ferry connections.

Te Whatu Ora Wairarapa provides secondary services for a population of approximately 50,000, providing 24-hour acute and elective care in general and orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, and paediatrics. The hospital operates both Public & Private theatre sessions covering General Surgery, Anaesthetics, Orthopaedics, Urology, Endoscopy, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics, as well as ENT.

Health New Zealand - Wairarapa has traditionally had an outsourced ophthalmology service, however we would like to provide greater continuity of services for our community therefore wish to bring this service in house. As a sole practitioner at Wairarapa we would be committed to ensuring you are linked closely to colleagues within our sub region to maintain a high level of competence.

This is a full time position, working 80 hours per fortnight, although part time hours will be considered Applicants must be eligible for Vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
