Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Wairarapa Hospital provides secondary services for a population of approximately 50,000, providing 24-hour acute and elective care in general and orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and paediatrics. The hospital operates both Public & Private theatre sessions covering General Surgery, Anaesthetics, Orthopaedics, Urology, Endoscopy, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics, as well as Ophthalmic and ENT.

At Wairarapa Hospital you will be four of three General Surgeons in a unit which provides a comprehensive service for the population of the Wairarapa. Wairarapa Hospital also has a close liaison with Selina Sutherland Hospital, an independent private facility, and there may be opportunities for work in this facility.

This is a permanent full time position, working 80 hours (1.0FTE) with an on call requirement of 1 in 4. Applicants must be eligible for Vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Upper and lower GI endoscopy is a required skill.

Moū - About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Registration as a Medical Practioner with the New Zealand Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for registration with the Medical Council to enable them to practice medicine within New Zealand.
  • Higher qualification appropriate to the practice of General Surgery which must be recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand for vocational or special scope registration as a General Surgeon.
  • At least two years Postgraduate general surgery speicality experience.
  • Demonstrated colonscopy skills
